The Sewickley Public Library knows math can be challenging, but there is no reason it can’t be fun, too! That’s why the library is offering the Bedtime Math’s Crazy 8s Math Club – a group that is nothing like your usual math club. This recreational after-school program goes beyond just books and numbers. Participants get to crack secret spy codes, build glow-in-the-dark structures, and play get-up-and-move games.

Designed for children in kindergarten through second grade, the program aims to get kids excited about math through fun and engaging activities. Because not all kids work at the same pace, the Crazy 8s program offers a variety of material to handle a wide range of abilities, even for kids in the same grade.

The goal of Crazy 8s is to show that math is fun and recreational, not compulsory, in order to change our culture and get kids to think of math as play. With that in mind, clubs always take place outside regular school hours, during the school year.

Crazy 8’s is offered weekly so kids appreciate math as an everyday part of their lives. The program will run every Tuesday beginning April 9 from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.  There is no fee for this program, but space is limited so participants are asked to register in advance.

Questions about the program can be directed to the library’s Children’s Department at 412-741-0937.
